Another Jan. 6 'Insurrection' Claim Falls: $30 Million in Damages

There has been no shortage of exaggerated claims made about the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol. It has been compared variously to Pearl Harbor, an insurrection, and the greatest threat to “democracy” in United States history. But a number of claims made about the events of that day, claims repeated ad nauseam by the media, have not stood the test of time. For example, Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick was not killed by a fire-extinguisher-wielding Trump mob, but of natural causes.

Another repeated claim was that the damages caused amounted to $30 million. This was the estimate made by Architect of the Capitol J. Brett Blanton.
