Yesterday, Matshidiso Moeti, the World Health Organization regional director for Africa, underlined that “Africa is in the midst of a full-blown third wave.… We’ve seen in India and elsewhere how quickly COVID-19 can rebound and overwhelm health systems.” In the last week, over 20 countries in Africa had above 20% rise in new cases. Presently, about 75% of the official new daily cases, by gross quantity, are concentrated in South Africa, Tunisia, Zambia, Uganda and Namibia. Fatalities are not far behind, climbing last week by 15%.
