ECB President Christine Lagarde claimed that 70% of Europeans want to become poorer to save the planet, in a speech on June 29. Apparently, Mme. Lagarde was on Mars when the Swiss voted against the CO2 tax. Or, those whom the gods would destroy, they first make blind.... Speaking at this year’s Brussels Economic Forum via video conference, Lagarde said: “Call for greener lifestyles has become amazing. ... Now 70% of Europeans are in favor of stricter government measures to fight climate change,” she said.
Through the NextGenerationEU fund, EU governments will channel public money into climate investments, but in order to have private capital too, we need a “to match NGEU with what I have termed a green capital markets union (CMU) – a truly green European capital market that transcends national borders,” Lagarde said.
