Egypt Delivers 4,000 Tons of Aid to Gaza

The Egyptian commitment to rebuilding Gaza has been demonstrated by the arrival of 52 trucks carrying 4,000 tons of relief supplies, described by Al Ahram “as a gift from President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi and the Egyptian people to the strip dwellers.” The state-owned Tahya Misr Fund, Al Ahram reports, has already sent three convoys carrying more than 4,000 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza over the past week. The three convoys were sent as per El-Sisi’s directives and initiative for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

Egyptian efforts to restart talks on a more permanent peace between Hamas and Israel are also continuing. Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar said yesterday, following a meeting with Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel, that Hamas is ready for “immediate negotiations” to reach a prisoner exchange with Israel. “The matter of prisoner exchanges saw some movement during the past period, but it came to a halt due to what [Israel] went through,” Sinwar said, a possible reference to Israel’s internal political turmoil and repeated elections, reported the Times of Israel.
