Egypt has begun sending heavy construction equipment and crews into Gaza through the Rafah crossing to begin the massive job of clearing rubble left by the Israeli military campaign. Palestinians lining the streets on the Gaza side of the crossing reportedly welcomed the convoy as it rumbled into the coastal enclave. A Palestinian border official said 50 vehicles had crossed, Reuters reported yesterday. “We rushed with all our money, equipment, and what we owned to join the Palestinians in the rebuilding. Every Muslim and every Egyptian wishes to take part” in the reconstruction, Egyptian truck driver Mahmoud Ismail told Reuters in Gaza.
