Two days after Twitter deleted a tweet by Nigerian President Buhari and temporarily suspended his ability to post, the social media company found that it had been suspended. “The Federal Government has suspended indefinitely the operations of the microblogging and social networking service Twitter in Nigeria,” reads the statement from the Minister of Information and Culture. “The Minister said the Federal Government has also directed the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to immediately commence the process of licensing all OTT and social media operations in Nigeria.”

At the time of writing, access to Twitter had not been interrupted in Nigeria, but the message by the Ministry suggests that Nigerian telecoms will be ordered to block access to the site.
