Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) called upon the Department of Justice to prosecute Anthony Fauci for lying to Congress. Paul trumpeted a 2015 paper in Nature Medicine to prove that the NIH had funded “gain of function” experiments at Wuhan’s Institute of Virology that made the coronavirus capable of infecting humans — however, Dr. Paul, the good eye doctor, might want to have his vision examined. https://www.nature.com/articles/nm.3985
The paper clearly states that the research Paul objects to — the creation of a “chimeric virus” — took place at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, a long way from Wuhan, China.
The NIH did fund work done by Ralph S. Baric, a professor of epidemiology and a microbiologist who studies coronaviruses, and a portion ($600,000 over several years) was subcontracted to the Wuhan lab. As Fauci has explained, it would have been irresponsible not to get the samples of bats in China that had been involved in the previous SARS epidemic. Fauci supposedly lied to Congress by denying that the NIH had funded gain of function activity at the Wuhan lab.
