South Africa's President Ramaphosa: Beyond Geopolitics - Let China and US Compete in Developing Africa

The Belt & Road News Africa correspondent, in a recent article entitled, “Can the Build Back Better World Platform Really Undo China’s Belt & Road in Africa?” led with President Cyril Ramaphosa’s appropriate response to President Biden’s announced challenge to China’s “Belt & Road'’ projects in Africa. China has been the major investor and builder of infrastructure in Africa for over a decade. When Ramaphosa was posed the geopolitical choice of China or the US, he explained that Africa has “no single partner in the world... We are a continent of many countries with huge deficits regarding infrastructure… We want partner-type investments. We are open to business and investments. We welcome those who come, on good terms of course.” He doesn’t take Biden’s announced challenge as “a threat of pushing China out… We don’t see the exclusion of one at the expense of another. We see inclusion.”
