China Has Established Vaccine Production Facilities in Eight Countries, Ten More In Planning Stage

As of the end of June, China had provided more than 350 million doses of its COVID-19 vaccines overseas. The Chinese have established vaccine production facilities (filling and packaging the vaccines using the vaccine ingredients imported from China) in eight countries, with discussions ongoing with ten others. The countries which now have production facilities are Brazil, UAE, Egypt, Indonesia, Turkey, Malaysia, Mexico, and Pakistan.

China has organized and implemented vaccine aid programs for 88 countries and four international organizations, China Daily reported on June 8. In Africa, 17 countries have adopted vaccines developed by China, whereas only three countries have access to the US-made vaccines, according to statistics by the Africa Data Hub.

Mao Junfeng, an official from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the country’s top industry regulator, told China Daily: “Chinese vaccine companies have been working 24 hours a day at full throttle to speed up production. Compared with the beginning of this year, their vaccine production capacities have increased significantly. That was the period with the highest output and the fastest growth rate in China’s vaccine production history.”
