Fossil Sources, Not Renewables, Secure German Power Supply

Pompous official announcements about Germany being on an allegedly good road to reach “climate neutrality” with a shift to “renewables” like solar, wind, and biomass collide with a reality that is predominantly dependent on fossil energy sources. During the first half year of 2021, renewables supplied no more than 16.8 percent to the national energy mix; natural gas took the lead with 30.6 percent, followed by mineral oil with 28.6 percent. Coal supplied 16.6 percent. Nuclear power supplied 7 percent.
