The Taliban today attacked Kandahar’s Ahmad Shah Baba International Airport, according to Agence France-Presse. Two rockets hit a runway, delaying flights until repairs were done. Fighting seems to be getting closer to larger cities. Other attacks have hit Herat and Helmand’s Lashkar Gah, both the sites of dams. The Kabul government continues its airstrikes against the Taliban. Ataullah Afghan, head of Helmand’s provincial council, said, “Fighting is going on inside the city and we have asked for special forces to be deployed in the city.” The government says that the Taliban’s attack in Herat hit the UN office there. One police officer was killed, along with injuries of others.
