With the exception of diesel and home-heating oil, fossil fuels and nuclear power increased in the amount of energy each source provided to the German national power grid in the first half-year of 2021. In contrast, non-"renewables” like solar, wind, and biomass fell. Diesel and home-heating oil use was 12.1% down because of coronavirus-related reduced car traffic and because its high market price deterred citizens from building reserves for the coming winter period.
