State Department's Dangerous Lunacy on China

The insanity of the Biden State Department knows no bounds. Asked in yesterday’s press briefing about the tense diplomatic standoff between Lithuania and China, after the former allowed Taiwan to set up a de facto embassy in Vilnius, spokesman Ned Price provocatively proclaimed that “we do stand in solidarity with our NATO ally Lithuania and we condemn the P.R.C.’s recent retaliatory actions, including the recall of Beijing’s ambassador from Vilnius and demanding Lithuania recall its ambassador from Beijing.” Price knows full well that any nation that maintains diplomatic relations with China, and recognizes the One China policy, is crossing a red line when it toys with the idea that Taiwan somehow merits recognition as a legitimate entity or member of the “international community,” rather than as an integral part of the Chinese nation-state.

Yet this is what Price did in baldly stating that “we support our European partners and our allies as they develop mutually beneficial relations with Taiwan and resist the P.R.C.’s coercive behavior. Taiwan is a global leader in public health and advanced manufacturing and democratic governance to name just a few areas in which the international community—including the United States—benefits from engagement with Taiwan.”
