All power to the New Orleans area was knocked out as Hurricane Ida neared landfall this morning when a transmission tower collapsed in the 90-100 mph winds and caused “imbalance” in its system, said Entergy. Half of New York City’s subway system was blacked out Aug. 29, Sunday night through Monday morning, with no storm, by a “voltage dip,” an “unprecedented power surge,” and “an unprecedented system breakdown,” said New York State Gov. Kathy Hochul.
