The FAO food price index, which had declined somewhat in June and July, jumped back up in August and was, again, 32.5% inflated in one year. There were large one-month price increases in the basics: sugar, 9.6%; vegetable oil, 6.7%; cereals, 3.4%. Supermarket prices in the U.S. and Europe are now expected to rise sharply this fall.
