Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi told reports that the G7 would be holding a meeting on Afghanistan next week and that Russia and China would also be attending. However, both China and Russia responded coolly when they heard about it. Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin replied to a question on Motegi’s statement:
“There have been many international multilateral conferences and initiatives involving Afghanistan issues recently. We should strengthen coordination and focus on practical results. We should not hold meetings for the sake of meetings, let alone use meetings to shirk responsibility. China has taken note of the above-mentioned proposal by the U.S., and it has also been noted that some people say this is a G7-related meeting.”
