Scenarios for party coalitions for a new German government with the Free Democrats (FDP), which would keep the Greens and their radical positions out, are dubious after remarks by FDP chairman Christian Lindner in a live pre-election broadcast on ARD last night. Lindner endorsed the transition to a hydrogen-powered economy that would ostensibly work without nuclear and coal. To ensure that the hydrogen is generated by “renewables” ("green” hydrogen) as the power source, Lindner called for huge wind parks off the German coasts. To reduce the enormous costs of hydrogen production, Lindner proposed importing it from Chile initially, and he claimed that German-made “green” hydrogen would become a profitable export, making Germany a “world champion” in that.
