Today, in the long shadow of the AUKUS agreement, the Quad leaders–U.S. President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Indian Prime Minister Naendra Modi, and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga–are meeting in a summit at the White House. According to a report in the Hindustan Times, India is looking to AUKUS to “desecuritize” the Quad. A source identified only as “a person familiar with these discussions” told the Times that AUKUS, with its unabashedly security bearing, has “de-securitized” the Quad, and this “is what we have wanted.”
