New Malthusian Report Says No Meat, No Livestock, Save Land for Nature To Combat Climate Change

A report just published in Nature Food, and enthusiastically reviewed by the British daily Guardian Sept. 13, offers the Malthusian argument that, in order to combat climate change, it’s time to stop producing and eating meat or raising livestock, since the global production of food, including the use of farm machinery, spraying fertilizer, and transportation of products, creates 17.3 billion metric tons of greenhouse gases (GHG) a year. As the Guardian intones with concern, “this enormous release of gases that fuel the climate crisis is more than double the entire emissions of the U.S. and represents 35% of all global emissions,” and therefore, “the raising and culling of animals for food is far worse for the climate than growing and process[ing] of fruits and vegetables for people to eat.” (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/sep/13/meat-greenhouses-gases-food-production-study)
