US Central Command yesterday announced a drone strike in Idlib province in Syria. “U.S. forces conducted a kinetic counterterrorism strike near Idlib, Syria, today, on a senior al-Qaeda leader,” it said in a press release. “Initial indications are that we struck the individual we were aiming for, and there are no indications of civilian casualties as a result of the strike.” The US release did not name the targeted Al Qaeda leader or provide any other details, but a report in Air Force Times cited the White Helmets and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights saying that the strike hit a single vehicle traveling on a rural road in Idlib killing only the single occupant.
