China’s PLA Command Condemned the U.S.-Canada Taiwan Strait Warship Transit

China’s People’s Liberation Army’s Eastern Theatre Command issued a strong condemnation today of the U.S.-Canada warship transit of the Taiwan Strait, which occurred October 14-15. “The United States and Canada colluded to provoke and stir up trouble … seriously jeopardising peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait.” The Command said that its forces monitored the ships. The U.S. military reported that the maneuver involved the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Dewey, and the Canadian frigate HMCS Winnipeg.

“Taiwan is part of Chinese territory. Theatre forces always maintain a high level of alert and resolutely counter all threats and provocations,” said the PLA.
