Oct. 1 was the 72nd National Day in China, celebrating the founding of the People’s Republic in 1949. In addition to other celebrations, the PLA flew 38 military aircraft into the Air Defense Identification Zone declared by the Taiwan government in the Taiwan Strait. This is the largest such deployment to date.
