John Deere’s 10,000 Workers Went on Strike Oct. 14; Many Labor Actions in the United States

This morning, the 10,000 workers of John Deere, the farm and heavy equipment manufacturer, went out on strike, after their 90-percent vote against an unacceptable contract offer worked out Sunday between their UAW union and the company. Deere is headquartered in Moline, Illinois, and has assembly lines there, in Iowa, and other states.

There are many other strikes and labor actions underway. The workforce of cereals processor Kellogg’s are striking, affecting 1,400 workers in Michigan, Nebraska, Tennessee, and elsewhere. In recent months, the same union struck two other cereals processors, Nabisco and Texas-based Frito-Lay..

In Alabama the United Mineworkers are in the seventh month of striking the Warrior Met Coal Co. in Brookfield.
