: Dominican President Luis Abinader announced Oct. 28 that he was canceling his trip to Glasgow for COP26 due to the very serious security situation in Haiti, and as a precaution, should there be any upsurge in gang activity in the neighboring country that could threaten the Dominican Republic. The press release announcing the President’s decision states that the deterioration in Haiti’s governability “demands a constant monitoring of the economic, political and economic situation to guarantee a rapid response of Dominican authorities in the event of any unforeseen [event] that would place our national security at risk.”
