U.S. and Russian delegates met in Geneva yesterday for strategic stability talks for the second time since the Putin-Biden summit on June 16, with the U.S. side led by Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman and the Russian side by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov. “The two delegations agreed to form two interagency expert working groups – the Working Group on Principles and Objectives for Future Arms Control, and the Working Group on Capabilities and Actions with Strategic Effects,” they said in a joint statement issued at the conclusion of their talks. “The delegations additionally agreed that the two working groups would commence their meetings, to be followed by a third plenary meeting.”
A senior U.S. administration official told reporters that Washington thought it was “a very productive meeting.”
