Countries Will Phase Out Coal—Except for the Biggest Users of It

Nov. 4: Today at FLOP 26 in Glasgow, the “President and CEO” of the 13-day affair, British MP Alok Sharma, announced a pact by 28 countries – then, suddenly, 77 countries – to phase out the use of coal by some time in the future; these countries thereby joined the absurdly named Powering Past Coal Alliance of Sir Michael Bloomberg, claimed to have 165 countries signed up. The new ones include Ukraine, Poland, and Singapore; but they don’t include the United States, China, or India, the three biggest coal-using countries.
