Extended Troika Meeting Scheduled for Nov. 11 in Islamabad

Russia’s special representative to Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov has announced that another meeting of the Extended Troika will be held in Islamabad on Nov. 11 to discuss the Afghanistan situation. The members of the group are the U.S., Russia, China and Pakistan. At the group’s last meeting in Moscow, the U.S. did not attend, and it’s unclear whether it will attend this one. According to TASS, Kabulov did announce that the new U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West will be in Moscow for a visit on Nov. 15. Shortly after he was nominated to this post on Oct. 18, West had spoken with Kabulov by phone and said he wanted to visit Moscow as soon as possible for a personal meeting with his Russian counterpart. At the time, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, “we’ll be glad to have him.”
