Approximately 70% of the U.S. population has received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and about 60% are fully vaccinated. The percentages in Western Europe are similar, with about two-thirds vaccinated in most countries.

As is well-known, the shortfalls are not for lack of available vaccine, but are largely due to widespread and often aggressive “anti-vax” superstitions in large portions of the population, combined with cultivated Ayn Rand-type hostility to “vax mandates,” “big government,” or “the state.”
