Work has begun on the first 11-kilometer section of the planned rail link between Qetta (Pakistan) and Kandahar (Afghanistan). The first section will connect the Pakistani border city of Chaman with the Afghan city of Spin Boldak. The entire distance between Qetta and Kandahar is 100 kilometers, once that link is completed, it will play an important role in BRI-related rail grids in Central Asia.
Preparatory work on the link began in mid-November. Now the track beds and tracks are laid, and this part of the project will be ready soon—a crucial step towards delivering larger quantities of humanitarian goods into Afghanistan’s regions bordering Pakistan.
