President Biden’s “mammoth” climate and social spending bill got the ax, from Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV). On Fox News Sunday today, Manchin announced that it is over. “I cannot vote to continue with this piece of legislation, I just can’t. I tried everything humanly possible. I can’t get there.” Asked if he was done with it, he said: “This is a ‘no,’ on this legislation. I have tried everything I know to do.” He’d worked “diligently” with Biden and with the Democratic leadership in Congress, but nothing has solved his deep concerns about inflation, the $29 trillion federal debt, and a surge in new COVID-19 infections.
There’s nothing like mentioning a cross in front of the devil. Sen. Bernie Sanders provided a typical hysterical frenzy over mentioning such unmentionables: “[L]ook we’ve been dealing with Mr. Manchin month after month after month. But if he doesn’t have the courage to do the right thing ... let him vote ‘no’ in front of the whole world.” Sanders went on to accuse Manchin of being in the pocket of Big Pharma, but had little say about inflation or a $29 trillion debt.
