Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will be in Moscow on Feb. 1 to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin. Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said last week that Orbán will discuss gas purchases from Russia, production of Russia’s Sputnik V Covid vaccine in Hungary, and the expansion of the Paks nuclear plant that Russia is building in the country.

The move has drawn an hysterical response from Hungary’s disloyal opposition. A Jan. 30 statement signed by representatives of six opposition parties declared: “In this tense situation, it is simply treasonous to go to Moscow.”
