‘Flinten Uschi’ von der Leyen Keeps Announcing More War Measures Against Russia

Alongside the more unfocused raving of British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss and the Churchill impersonation by Boris Johnson, the hardline announcements of more and more provocative war measures against Russia continue to come from EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who had been known as “Flinten Uschi” ["Shotgun Uschi"] when she was German Defense Minister. After her announcements of the extreme financial and economic sanctions against Russia on Feb. 26, today she announced a total flight ban of all Russian aircraft over Europe, and the blackout of the major Russian news services.

On Twitter at 11:31 a.m., von der Leyen announced: “First, we are shutting down the EU airspace for Russian-owned, Russian registered or Russian-controlled aircraft. They won’t be able to land in, take off or overfly the territory of the EU. Including the private jets of oligarchs.” She added: “We are banning the Kremlin’s media machine. The state-owned Russia Today and Sputnik, as well as their subsidiaries, will no longer be able to spread their lies to justify Putin’s war and to sow division in our union. We are developing tools to ban their toxic and harmful disinformation in Europe.”
