Germany Must Change Course, or It Risks Prolonged Blackouts

A sudden, prolonged power outage would have catastrophic consequences in Germany. “Unfortunately, we in Germany are not sufficiently prepared for the consequences of a nationwide power blackout,” said the CEO of GDV, an insurance association. GDV’s website reports that a blackout is currently “one of the greatest risks for our country,” according to Wolfram Geier, head of the department for risk management and international affairs at the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK).
