U.S. Targets ISIS Leader in Northwestern Syria

The same U.S. administration that is making a great show of being concerned for Ukraine’s territorial integrity just launched yet another military operation in a country that has not invited its presence—Syria—leading to a dozen deaths.

The Biden Administration this morning is claiming the death of ISIS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi during a special forces raid in Idlib province in northwestern Syria on the night of Feb. 2-3. Al-Qurayshi became the leader of ISIS after the death of ISIS founder Abubakr Al-Baghdadi in a similar raid in 2019.

President Joe Biden said in an appearance at the White House that the choice was made to target al-Qurayshi with special forces rather than a missile strike in order to avoid civilian casualties. But ten civilians, including women and children, were reported killed along with three others, which Biden claimed occurred when al-Qurayshi “chose to blow up” both himself and the entire third floor of the home in which he was holed up, which led to the death of his own family members.

“Thanks to the skill and bravery of our Armed Forces, we have taken off the battlefield Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi — the leader of ISIS,” Biden said in an earlier statement.
