“Xiplomacy” Reaches Americans, Despite the FBI

In exchanges of friendship bound to send Christopher Wray’s FBI scrambling, Xi Jinping personally responded to two letters sent to him by, respectively, a mayor of a Washington state town, and the head of the Utah-based Helen Foster Snow Foundation, Xinhua reported yesterday.

Mayor Dick Muri, mayor of Steilacoom, Washington, population 6,700, and proud to call itself “the town of firsts” in that state (its first port, territorial court, post office, and school district, for example) was thrilled that President Xi answered his letter expressing confidence that China would be successful in hosting the Winter Olympics. “Going to China is on my bucket list,” Muri told Xinhua.
