The U.S. coverage of Russia’s retaliation against the U.S.’s additional sanctions on February 24 puts into question the future of the International Space Station and Europe’s ExoMars mission, says Jeff Foust in the Feb. 28 issue of The Space Review. While Russia and the European Space Agency are planning to cooperate with China on their space station, the U.S. has banned cooperation with China and has no viable plan for manned space flight after the ISS. So, the U.S.has been trying to get the other partners to extend the operation of the space station. They have recently agreed to operate it until 2030. That is only possible if the Russians stay in the program.
