Russian officials confirmed today that a fire at an oil terminal in the city of Belgorod, about 35 km from the border with Ukraine, was the result of an attack on the facility by a pair of Ukrainian attack helicopters. “The fire at the oil depot occurred because of an airstrike from two Ukrainian Air Force helicopters that entered Russian territory at a low altitude. There have been no casualties,” said Belgorod Region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said in his Telegram channel. Officials of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that eight fuel tanks of 2,000 cubic meters capacity each were aflame.
Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters at the Kremlin that the attack is not creating “conditions for further talks,” when asked if the incident could be viewed as an escalation of the conflict.
