The German Bundestag okayed the supply of heavy weapons today with a cross-party resolution backed by the SPD, CDU-CSU, Greens, and FDP. The resolution was rejected by the opposition AfD and Linke, the more fundamental criticism coming from the AfD. “Today, the Bundestag is passing a motion that will prolong the war in Ukraine and could make us a belligerent in a nuclear-led war,” says AfD party and parliamentary group leader Tino Chrupalla. The motion reads like a “declaration of accession to a war,” he said, adding that it is in Germany’s interest to maintain good relations with Ukraine and Russia in the future.
