Col. (ret.) Richard Black was interviewed today by EIR’s Mike Billington for over an hour. He began by refuting the recurring claim by the war party that Russia is committing war crimes in Ukraine “like they did in Syria, in Aleppo.” Col. Black. who has been exposing the lies about Syria for several years, described the U.S. launching of the war in Syria by arming al-Qaeda and deploying them as surrogate forces to bring down the Assad government through terrorist operations, as had been done against Qaddafi in Libya. Russia provided the airpower, at the invitation of the legitimate government, to stop the terrorists, but deployed no battle troops, while the U.S. illegally occupied the northeast breadbasket and oil resources, which they continue stealing today, with the intention of starving and freezing the population. Aleppo, he said, had been totally destroyed by the terrorists before the Russians even entered Syria. The same policy is now being imposed on Russia.
He described Russia’s transformation after the collapse of the Soviet Union — no longer communist, and “the most Christian nation in Europe.” The U.S., on the other hand, has a military strategy to expand its empire in league with the British. They tried in the Mideast, he said, and now they are doing so in Eurasia.
Russia moved its forces into Ukraine out of dire necessity, he said, when the Ukraine Army mobilized a huge force to invade the self-proclaimed republics in the Donbas. An invasionary force, as a rule of thumb, must have three times the forces as the country it is invading, in tanks, planes, troops, etc., but the Russian forces had only 160,000 compared to Ukraine’s 250,000. Despite having total support of the air, they have refused to attack Kiev, or any infrastructure such as power, water, trains, etc, since they want them intact when they complete their stated task of denazification and preventing NATO from occupying. Their objective is to liberate the Donbas.
