India’s Independence from U.S. Policy to Be Tested

India continues to maintain friendly but independent relations with the U.S. despite the pressure from the Biden Administration. Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said that while India condemns the Bucha killings, there must be an independent investigation. “The reports of civilian killings in Bucha are deeply disturbing and we unequivocally condemn these killings, we support calls for an independent investigation,” he said, reported TASS. The investigation “has to be in a way that it is independent. The independent investigation would help determine the facts,” Bagchi stressed.

Bagchi also made it clear that India and Russia are talking about stabilizing, and not increasing, their economic relations “because it is in our interest to ensure that some of this economic activity continues,” Bagchi said, reported the Hindustan Times. “Given the current circumstances, post developments in Ukraine, there is an effort by both sides to ensure that this economic relationship remains stable.”
