Russia’s First Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky, said on Monday that he currently sees no prospects for any agreements between Russia and Ukraine, according to TASS. The statement came in response to the UN initiative to set up an international contact group on humanitarian issues involving Ukraine, Russia, and the United Nations.

“Such initiatives [to organize a Russian-Ukrainian meeting to discuss humanitarian matters] have been advanced by the United Nations before. As a matter of fact, they want to find a niche in the settlement effort, to help the sides bring their positions closer,” Polyansky said in an interview with the Solovyov Live television channel. “Such a niche is probably possible if there are prospects for any agreements between Russia and Ukraine, but I see none, especially in the current situation.”
