SEC Requires Climate-Change Risk Disclosures under New Plan

Bloomberg Green reported March 21 that companies will be compelled to reveal detailed information about their greenhouse gas pollution under a new U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission plan. If the plan is implemented after public comment, there will be a major shift in the viability of productive investment in the U.S. economy, particularly in the energy industries. The Biden SEC plan wants to make businesses outline the risks posed by “a warming planet” (in reality, the risks posed by being blamed for a warming) to their operations when they file registration statements, annual reports or other documents. Companies above a certain size will have to provide information not only on their own CO2 emissions, but those from firms in their supply chain.
