With international attacks on China’s Zero-COVID policy as oppressive, dictatorial, etc., the Standing Committee of the CPC met on Thursday, May 5, chaired by President Xi Jinping, to reaffirm the policy. While acknowledging that Shanghai had been unprepared for the spike in cases when the Omicron variant struck, the Standing Committee “warned against any slackening in the control efforts, stated the importance of unswervingly adhering to the dynamic zero-COVID policy and resolutely fighting any attempts to distort, question or dismiss China’s anti-COVID policy,” according to the Global Times.
There were problems in Shanghai with food and medicine distribution, and the Standing Committee insisted that all cities be prepared in the future for any outbreak.
