On the Markus Lanz television show in Germany last night, Linkspartei (Left Party) MP Sahra Wagenknecht insisted that her criticism of the Western strategy on Ukraine is justified. The recent statement by U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin that he wanted to weaken Russia to the maximum would suggest that Britain and the U.S. were aiming for a long war instead of negotiations, Wagenknecht said. “If you want to weaken Russia to the maximum, you don’t want a compromise.”
Wagenknecht evaded a direct answer on the Finland issue, pointing instead to the U.S. dislike of non-alignment and an incident between the U.S. and the Solomon Islands nation: “When the U.S. threatens a small group of islands in the South Pacific with war because they want to enter into a military alliance with China, it shows that the U.S. obviously defines its sphere of influence even much larger than Russia.”
