Elon Musk and Jokowi Meet—Nickel Development in Indonesia

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla among many other things, met May 14 with Indonesia President Joko Widodo at the SpaceX launch site in Boca Chica, Texas, following Jokowi’s participation in the U.S.-ASEAN Summit in Washington. The main topic was Musk’s plan to invest in Indonesia’s nickel industry and the production of batteries for electric vehicles, according to the Jakarta Post. Tesla representatives have been holding meetings in Indonesia over the past weeks. Possible SpaceX investments are also under discussion.

Musk may visit Indonesia in November, the Post reports, the same month Indonesia will be hosting the G20 Summit in Bali. Musk said there could be room for “partnerships in many things, because Indonesia has a lot of potential,” a government statement said.
