Israel Apparently Reverses Decision To Scrap May 9 Commemoration

According to Channel 12 News Israel, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his envoy to Israel, Yevgen Korniychuk, reportedly made a demand that Israel commemorate V-E day on May 8—when Western countries observe the event—rather than May 9, which is traditionally a national holiday in Israel, so that it wouldn’t appear to be aligning with Russia, which celebrates Victory Day on May 9.

Just hours ago, in an apparent dramatic reversal of its decision reported a few days ago to cancel the May 9 event, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has rejected the impertinent request of the Ukrainian government, which wanted Israel to either move the event, or scrap it altogether.
