Turley Charges U.K. To Be ‘Censor to the World’

In a May 7 blog post, constitutional law expert Jonathan Turley reported that the British Parliament’s Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee has called on Elon Musk to testify before it regarding “balancing his commitment to free speech with new obligations to protect Twitter’s users from online harms"; and that the United States government is asking Britain to take charge of censorship of Twitter posts for the [imperial] world.

The prima donna who heads the Biden Administration’s newly created Disinformation Governance Board, Nina Jankowicz, has called on Great Britain to use its laws to impose state censorship on social media companies for the world. The U.K.’s Online Safety Bill, if passed, would for the first time introduce direct state censorship, by the use of large fines, of tech companies’ social media platforms. Turley calls it “old-fashioned state censorship. This includes confiscatory fines for anything deemed ‘grossly offensive.’ The bill would allow countries like Great Britain to impose censorship on the rest of the world.”

The Twitter Musk has just taken over is headquartered in Ireland, with its American branch, Twitter, Inc., headquartered in San Francisco. (https://jonathanturley.org/2022/05/05/stay-calm-and-censor-on-musk-summoned-to-parliament-to-answer-for-his-pledge-to-restore-free-speech/)
