A new “tempest in a teacup” may blow up to something much bigger as Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s father has announced his intention to visit Xinjiang. Stanley Johnson has apparently been a big fan of Marco Polo, and as a young man took Polo’s reported trip from Italy to Afghanistan. He did not go farther at the time, but he wants to do so now—and he wants to take a camera team with him! He has been in contact with the Chinese ambassador, who is favorable to the trip, and arrangements could also be made to have a CCTV team along with Johnson pere. He will also be taking brother Max Johnson, who is based in Hong Kong, with him on the trip. He intends to spend six weeks “in the field,” he said.
