Global Times Editorial: The World Faces ‘Two Distinct Global Governance Propositions’ in G7 and BRICS Summits

A China Global Times editorial of June 24 recommended to the gathering G7 heads of state and government, who are meeting in Germany from June 26-28, that they “should read the BRICS Beijing Declaration carefully,” which was issued on June 23. The editorial contrasted the BRICS repeated calls for development and cooperation with the so-called “rules-based order” which is leading the world into economic collapse and war. “The future destiny of mankind depends to a large extent on the outcome of this historic race” between two competing systems. The G7 nations focused on “driving a wedge among BRICS countries,” prior to the summit, Global Times wrote. “In particular, they did a lot of work trying to stir India up.… However, BRICS states haven’t gone ahead as they designed, let alone to be misled or divided.”

With its heavy emphasis on development and cooperation, “the messages conveyed by the BRICS Summit is worthy of careful reading by the international community, especially the U.S. and Western countries.” The editorial continued:
