New York City Health Department Campaigns for ‘Safe’ Fentanyl Use

New York City subway riders are now greeted by public service posters in the subway cars proclaiming: “Don’t be ashamed of using [fentanyl], be empowered to use it safely.” The poster recommends five measures for how to ingest fentanyl, the deadly, highly- addictive synthetic opioid 30 to 50 times more potent than heroin, two milligrams of which can kill a person:

“Avoid using alone and take turns;

“Start with a small dose and go slowly;

“Keep naloxone ready and on hand [to reverse overdose];
